Vermont Residency: New Directions, New Work

I’m home from my residency at the Vermont Studio Center, and I’ve been reflecting on just how much this experience has shaped me—both in the studio and beyond. I couldn’t wait to sit down and share some of what unfolded during this unforgettable month.

Finding a New Visual Language

I went to Vermont planning to experiment with several different approaches, but I quickly became engrossed in mono screen printing. The freedom of the medium offered me a completely new visual language, and an entirely fresh body of work began to take shape.

Writing as Creative Catalyst

One of the most unexpected and inspiring parts of residency was being surrounded by so many incredible writers. My daily journaling practice turned into it’s own creative outlet, and for the first time ever, my writing began driving my visual work. I’ll be continuing that thread at home, and I’m currently working on a piece of writing that will accompany this new body of work.

Save the Date: May 17th at Print House

Residency gave me the space to experiment, push, and play in the studio, and this work grew out of that freedom. You’ll be able to get a first look at this new exhibit at the grand opening event for Print House on Saturday, May 17th. It feels like the perfect way to continue what began in Vermont and carry it forward now that I’m home. I hope you can make it! I’d love to show you around the studio and share with you what I’ve been working on. It’s going to be such a fun evening of celebration!

Community, Connection, and Goodbye

Aside from time in the studio, I went on many waterfall hikes, enjoyed the most incredible meals (seriously, the food was amazing), and spent large chunks of time writing. In that month, my world narrowed to just three buildings on one quiet street, and yet it felt wildly expansive. There was something profoundly peaceful and rare about being held within such a slow-moving, intentional space in a world that’s usually moving so fast. I couldn’t have imagined how quickly that place would come to feel like home. I cannot express the kindness of the Vermont Studio staff and the deep connections with fellow residents that made this experience unforgettable. Saying goodbye to the people I met there was so much harder than I expected. The community that forms in such a short time is truly something special.

Carrying It All Home

Now that I’m home, I’m carrying this work and this momentum with me. I’m so grateful for the time, space, and connection that shaped this chapter of my practice, and I’m so excited for what’s next!

Thank you for following along and for all your support. I’ll see you on May 17th!
